OneDay >> Voices In Support Page One | Page Two Voices In Support Support for OneDay has been given by world leaders such as Senator Paul Wellstone, President George W. Bush, President Bill Clinton, Mrs. Nane Annan, Kay Bailey Hutchison, and the Dalai Lama.
OneDay has earned the support of a multitude of individuals, countries, and states. In November 1999 the United Nations General Assembly invited the people of the world to celebrate "One Day In Peace, January 1, 2000" by refraining from violence of any kind on the first day of the International Year for the Culture of Peace. One thousand organizations in one hundred thirty-five countries and hundreds of mayors worldwide participated in this launch for a better world. In addition, the following governments and US governors pledged their support:
"For one day a miracle -- all hatred vanishes, and all love, peace and harmony exists. If we can do it for one day, pray to keep on doing it one day at a time for eternity." Robin Leach "As they used to say, 'What if they gave a war and nobody came?' How worthwhile if they declared a day of peace and everybody came." Ed Asner "The American Medical Association (AMA) . . . recently voted to support the One Day in Peace for January 1, 2000 Campaign. As physicians we are committed to treating all suffering. . . and discouraging situations where suffering may occur.." D. Ted Lewers, MD, Chair board of trusteesr, American Medical Association "What a wonderful way to welcome the new Millennium! Throughout history and in all its cultures, the sharing of a meal has symbolized peace, brotherhood, and charity. The 21st Century offers so many wonderful promises of technological and economic advances. Your coming together for the [Millennium Meal Project] adds the caring human dimension that must also be part of the vision for the next century." Tipper Gore, The White House "As you know,
one day can make a difference. During July 1990, the people of Kuwait
enjoyed the rights and privileges of Kuwaiti citizenship. On the second
day of August,1990, their lives became radically different as Iraqi forces
steam-rollered across the border. Similarly, Europeans through the terror
of Adolph Hitler know the difference a day makes. I laud your efforts
for this worthy and history-making cause." Kay Bailey Hutchison,
United States Senator "The United
Kingdom supports the cause of international peace, including celebration
of 'One Day in Peace' on New Year's Day." Jolyon Welsh, First
Secretary United Kingdom, Mission to the United Nations "Georgia, having overcome the totalitarian past, the tragedy of domestic conflicts, bloodshed and difficulties of transition appreciates any positive step toward peace and stability in the world. . . One Day in Peace presents an opportunity to help solve global problems. . ." Rusudan Beridze,Deputy Secretary, National Security Council Of Georgia "As these
two incredibly caring organizations join, the 'season of sharing' comes
closer to becoming a wonderful reality every day." Daniel Patrick
Moynihan, United States Senator Home
